Year 2
Welcome to Year 2
Mrs Kramer and Mrs Spendlove are the class teachers and Miss Kelly is a classroom assistant who will be supporting the class every morning.
Year 2 is the final year of Key Stage 1 and we continue to build upon the foundations developed in Year 1 whilst preparing the children for Key Stage 2. The children will be encouraged to continue to develop their independence and further develop their creativity.
Year 2 is a very exciting and busy year where children will be continuing to develop a range of skills and knowledge alongside discovering and learning lots of exciting new things. The children will be encouraged to develop their 'Behaviour for Learning'.
We will work very hard but also have lots of fun learning together.
This year we will cover a variety of skills, knowledge and understanding including the following topics:
- Islands
- The Great Fire of London
- Traditional tales
- Minibeasts
The children will be participating in PE and outdoor skills on Tuesday and Thursday in Spring Term.
They will need to bring in their PE kits on these days.
The children will also have the opportunity to be involved with many pupil groups around the school.
We look forward to helping Year 2 develop and grow.

Week beginning 15 June 2026
Year 2 have been lucky enough to take part in the Saracens Inspire Her programme over the past three weeks. During their PE lessons, Kiera gave the children a fantastic introduction to rugby, aimed at inspiring girls in particular, although it was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Exploring Seeds and Bulbs
Year 2 had a fantastic time this afternoon investigating seeds and bulbs as part of our science learning.
The children carefully dissected a variety of seeds and bulbs, observing them closely and identifying their different parts. We discussed the names and functions of these parts and explored how they help plants grow and develop.
The class also compared the seeds and bulbs, looking for similarities and differences in their structure, size, and appearance. Everyone enjoyed being hands-on scientists and made some excellent observations throughout the afternoon.

Year 2 Safari Day
What an exciting adventure our Year 2 children had today on their Safari Day! The day began with the children carefully packing their suitcases before boarding their "flight" to Kenya. 🇰🇪
Once they arrived, they set off on a safari adventure, searching for some of Africa's most amazing animals and learning all about the habitats they live in. The children also had the opportunity to explore and share a range of fascinating artefacts from Kenya, helping them to develop a deeper understanding of the country's culture and traditions.
Throughout the day, the children compared life in rural and urban areas of Kenya, discussing similarities and differences and gaining valuable insights into how people live in different parts of the world.
Week beginning 18 May 2026
Year 2 had a fantastic afternoon learning how to play tennis with local coach James. The children enjoyed taking part in a range of fun activities and games while developing their balancing, racket and ball skills. They showed great enthusiasm, determination and teamwork throughout the session, and it was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they practised their tennis techniques. 
Week beginning 4 May 2026
Year 2 had a wonderful time this morning visiting the chicks! The children loved listening to them cheep and were very gentle when giving them a stroke. It was amazing to see how much they’ve grown already, especially noticing their tiny wings starting to develop. A lovely experience that everyone really enjoyed!

They’ve already tackled Superhero Training Academy and enjoyed an interactive maths lesson in the sunshine. And the fun isn’t over yet — more exciting activities this afternoon!
Spring Term 2026
Week beginning 23rd March 2026
We’ve been having a wonderful time in class exploring the story The Lost Homework by Richard O’Neill. The children thoroughly enjoyed the book and used it as inspiration for their own creative writing.
Building on the story, we developed our own imaginative characters and created our own “lost stories. The children worked incredibly hard to bring their characters to life and think about what might happen if something important went missing!
To make our writing even more special, we shared our stories with Year One, who were a fantastic audience. The children read with confidence and enthusiasm, and it was lovely to see them take pride in their work while engaging and entertaining the younger pupils.

This week Year 2 had an amazing day celebrating World Book Day. Year 2 dressed to impress in some amazing costumes, parents were invited in to read with us, we had a fantastic 'book tasting' and completed lots of great book themes activities throughout the day. Jack said it was 'the best day ever!'.

In maths this week, we have been looking at divide by making equal groups. We used counters to help us to group accurately and see how many groups we could make.

At Forest School, we talked about frogs and their different habitats over the course of the year. We then built a toad abode for them to hibernate in.

This week we have started new topics in History and Art about The Great Fire of London. The children were very enthusiastic and came up with lots of fantastic questions that they would like answered as we learn more about the topic. We made cover pages for our new topic in Art using collage to represent the Fire.

This week Year 2 performed beautifully in our Christmas production. They put their oracy skills to good use and said their lines clearly whilst protecting their voices, and performed their songs with great enthusiasm.

This week Year 2 were comparing different localities in Geography. We used digimap to find a map of our local area in Stevenage, and compared it to a map of the fictional island 'The Isle of Struay'. We worked in partners to identify different features on the maps and discussed if they were human or physical features.

Today we were really lucky to be visited by Happy Little Yogi who gave us a calming and mindful yoga session. We really loved it! In particular, we enjoyed copying the sequence and the sensory activities at the end. Thank you to our kind visitor.

Welcome to Year 2! We have had a lovely first couple of days getting to know the new Year 2 children. In Maths this week we have been thinking about how we can represent numbers in different ways, and had a fun, practical maths lesson exploring our different maths resources and making different numbers with them.
