School Council
Our School Council represents the views of all our pupils. It gives children the opportunity to make their voices heard and feel part of the whole school community.
The School Council is an important part of Trotts Hill and the children feel proud to be elected. In September, the class vote for their representatives for the academic year. All children from Year 2 to Year 6 are given the opportunity to stand for election. After making a speech to their class, their peers vote. This is an important part of children’s experience of British Values and a democratic process in school. Children meet regularly with Mrs Cook.
Our School Council Representatives for 2025/26 are:

2025-2026
Summer 2026 - Learners to Leaders
School Council were keen to organise a whole school event, linked to our whole school priorities. They came up with the idea of students becoming teachers for the day, in order to hone their oracy skills.
Pupil Parliament - March 2026
On 24th March 2026, Gabby, Charlotte, Aaruhi and Ewan met once again at the Council Chambers. They shared their Eco ideas which have and will be implemented in school, including: creating a greenhouse, litter picking in school, Net zero programme in school with light monitors and a drive on reducing food waste. We recently won another Eco Award for this reason.
The next focus will be on the following:
Can we always trust what we see online?
How does social media affect how we feel about ourselves and others?
What are the risks of using AI, and how can we use it safely?
What should we do if something online makes us feel uncomfortable or upset?
This project is all about helping children to become confident, safe, and responsible users of technology—not just now, but in the future as well.
We’ll be looking at topics like:
- Online safety
- Digital wellbeing
- Spotting fake or misleading information
- Using AI in a sensible and responsible way
Pupil Parliament - November 2025
On November 18th 2025, our School Council representatives, Gabby and Charlotte in Year 5, and Aaruhi in Year 6, met fellow schools in Stevenage, at the Council Chambers to discuss sustainability. It was also an opportunity to meet the Stevenage Mayor as well as youth representatives.
We were able to share what we currently do at Trotts Hill, as well as gain ideas about what to implement next. We are considering an Eco Day, and a creative writing competition, promoting the important message of going zero!
