The School Council is an important part of Trotts Hill and the children feel proud to be elected. In July, the class vote for their representatives for the next academic year. All children from Year 2 to Year 6 are given the opportunity to stand for election. After making a speech to their class, their peers vote. This is an important part of children’s experience of British Values and a democratic process in school. Children attend a fortnightly meeting with Mrs Wilby.
Our School Council is a member of Stevenage Schools Parliament and the Year 6 School Councillors attend regular meetings.
2018/2019 School Council Representatives:
- Year 2 – Hanna & Louie I
- Year 3 – Sienna & Owen
- Year 4 – LB & Anya
- Year 5 – JB & Asha
- Year 6 – Oliver & Jess
The school councillors shared some information about themselves today and will now add this to our display board in school. They carried out a class vote to choose a movie for our film night at the end of half term and finalised the plans for Children in Need.
We have now elected a chairperson (Jess) who will lead our meetings, a secretary (Owen) who will keep records of any important information and treasurers (JB and Asha) who will manage any funds which the school council raise. All school councillors now have their own notebooks to record our meetings. Today we also discussed some ideas for Children in Need and how to increase parental engagement.
